2019 Iron Horse Bicycle Classic

The 48th edition of the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic.

The Iron Horse Bicycle Classic - what started as a bet to see if they could beat the train to Silverton has now turned into a fun-filled 3-day cycling event. The event kicks off with a festival with all the vendors where the Shimano STEPS demo team was on site with a fleet of electric bicycles for test rides. On day two the real action began, with a 50-mile road race from Silverton to Durango. The ride goes up over 10,000 ft in elevation, featuring three large climbs and ride along the Animas river route for much of the ride. The third day is a mountain bike race that starts in Buckley Park located in Downtown Durango, goes up into the hills and into Horse Gulch finally winding its way back into town and through a brewery back to the finish line. There is also a 40 and 60-mile gravel ride called La Strata La Plata that winds its way up into the mountains along some iconic Mountain bike training routes and into some of Durango’s most scenic valleys back into town.
