Meet the STEPS Team: Adam Kidd

Adam Kidd is the STEPS East Demo Driver - his job entails driving around the Eastern US States attending events and sharing the experience of Shimano STEPS.

The Shimano STEPS demo team is made up of three drivers covering all of the North America. The team will be traveling throughout North America to key events so consumers can test ride both our Shimano STEPS E-MTB and E-City electric bike systems.

We sat down with Adam, our East Coast Demo Driver, for a little Q&A to learn more about him.

Where are you from, where are you based out of?

  • Originally from Tampa, FL. I now call Charleston, SC home.

How did you get started in the bike industry and when?

  • When I was moving to Charleston, I walked into Charleston Bicycle Company in West Ashley and asked if they were hiring. I started about two weeks later and worked there in different capacities for over 6 years. I’m so thankful to that crew (past and present) for the opportunity and for teaching me so much along the way.

What do you like about being a STEPS demo driver?

  • Working in new cities and meeting new people. Chatting with locals and learning about their experiences riding is always something I enjoy. They’re also always willing to give us tips on where to ride and where to eat. Always appreciated.

Any fun facts you’d like to mention about yourself?

  • Even though we went to the same college and lived less than hour apart, my wife and I met while studying in Italy.

Favorite Place to Ride?

  • Western NC. I can easily find something technical or fast and flowy. There is so much variety throughout that area, and the people are awesome too.

Favorite Food?

  • Thai. Lots of noodles and vegetables.

Favorite City in the US?

  • Any small mountain town with a main street, good people, and some history.

Favorite place to ride a STEPS city bike?

  • Downtown Charleston. It’s a beautiful city and is best explored by bike, but high humidity in the summer makes it almost unbearable. My STEPS bike makes it much easier and more enjoyable.

How do you like your coffee?

  • Black and in large quantities.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

  • A horse. They’re strong, fast, and live on plants.

Favorite Disney movie?

  • Wall-E.

Favorite Breakfast Cereal?

  • Raisin Bran

Childhood nickname?

  • My dad called me Sport when I was a kid…he actually still calls me sport, and I love it.

What are three things that are still on your lifetime bucket list?

  • I’d like to ride a few of cycling’s iconic mountains, hike the Appalachian Trail, and do a bicycle tour of Ireland with my wife.

Cats or dogs?

  • Both.

Favorite Dessert food?

  • Sorbet

Do you listen to Podcasts or music on the road?

  • For shorter drives, music. Normally bluegrass but sometimes it’s metal. On longer drives, I’ll listen to books through Audible or a podcast.

Favorite professional sports team?

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers

What is the weirdest thing you’ve seen out on the trail?

  • Recently I had several white tailed deer run alongside me for a few seconds. I was scared one of them was going to take me out!

Favorite candy?

  • Sour Patch Kids. Meet me at a demo, and there is a good chance I have a bag within arm’s reach.
