SHIMANO E-bike systems offer clever options but no dramas. Here’s a look at some very basics and some highly clever yet surprisingly simple settings.
Depending on the bike, there are two methods to turn on the system. Some bikes will have an ON/OFF button on the frame, whilst others will have the ON/OFF button on the battery. In both cases, give it a press and wait for the light to turn green to indicate that the system is on, ensuring that you don’t have pressure on the pedals as you do so.
For SHIMANO E-bike systems with a Di2 internal geared hub, start mode automatically shifts to your selected gear when starting from stationary. To select this gear, enter the menu by pressing down the function button on the display or simultaneously pressing the top and bottom buttons on the left switch unit. Use the top or bottom buttons on the left switch unit to scroll to START MODE and press the function button to select. Choose which gear you want by using the top and bottom buttons again, then press the function button once more to confirm.
If you have a SHIMANO E-bike system with an 8-speed Di2 internal geared hub, you have the option as to whether the gears automatically shift or you opt to shift them manually. To make this choice, press both the buttons on the right switch unit to swap between automatic (A) and manual (M) shifting.
Hopefully these videos have shown that you can have some pretty fancy but functional options that are easy to access and adjust. However, remember that you can contact or visit your nearest SHIMANO Service Centre for any further queries.
