Riding Bardenas Reales Natural Park - Bardenas Reales, Spain

Professional mountain biker David Cachon, is one of ten Shimano riders asked to share a route that in some way explores new grounds. Cachon takes us to the remarkable Bardenas Reales National Park in Spain.

A surreal lunar-like desert landscape, covered with deep ravines and sculpted rocks, forms the backdrop to an unforgettable route. Created by the efforts of wind and water on different rock types this completely unique environment makes for an epic e-MTB ride and mind-blowing pictures.

Seeing this landscape for the first time you would be forgiven for thinking that it could not be real, the colours, the contorted shapes and the total absence of plant life on the plateau gives the area a strange and mysterious feeling. But it may also look familiar, it is likely that you have seen it before, as this is the desert that Daenerys, the Mother of Dragons, crossed on her path to the throne in Game of Thrones and James Bond was here in ‘The World is not Enough’.

From the huge wheeling vultures that fly over head to the sunset that glows a vibrant orange through the dust of the desert, everything takes on a cinematic quality, making it one of the most distinct photo shoots of this series and why we chose it as the cover our Explore New Grounds magazine.

One of the best ways to explore the area is by mountain bike and David Cachon takes us on a tour of its many features, including the legendry Descent of the Deer, a meandering trail through one of the canyons, where you ride between eroded rippling grey walls. With the e-MTB you can reach the furthest parts of the National Park exploring all of these strange grounds.
