Ride more with an e-bike

Riding an e-bike allows you to cycle further and more often, so you can improve your health and fitness in a way that is easy and fun!

Riding an e-bike makes it possible for everyone to enjoy cycling and even though an e-bike makes cycling easier, because the motor takes some of the strain, you are still getting the benefits of exercise.

Research has shown that in fact riding an e-bike increases the total amount of cycling that people do, compared with riding a conventional bike, or not cycling at all!  That’s more hours on the bike building muscle, strengthening your heart and lungs and burning more calories. Research lead by the University of Brighton discovered that when people were given e-bikes to commute to work they actively chose cycling instead of other means of transport, such as the car, bus or train. Riding an e-bike allows you to get to your destination faster and with less effort, so it is no surprise that a study in the Netherlands found people commuted 50% further with an e-bike than on a conventional bike. Combining commuting with exercising is more time effective than going to the gym and it can save you money on travel. When it comes to starting exercise the best advice is always to build up slowly, going from zero to hero is a fast track to injury, exhaustion and a loss in motivation. It sounds counterintuitive but because e-bikes make cycling feel easier riders challenge themselves more, but in a manageable way. A study reported in the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine showed that an e-bike has the potential to improve heart and lung fitness to a similar extent as a conventional bicycle because the e-bike allowed riders to travel further, faster and climb hills with greater ease.
